STATUTORY RATIOS

Different countries, different ratios. ParentLink doesn’t flatten them.

Live ratios on the Dashboard, the Schedule view, the kiosk popout and the inspection snapshot all come from one ratio engine, per nation. A Glasgow nursery sees 1:3 under 2 and 1:5 for 2–3-year-olds; an English nursery sees 1:3, 1:4 and 1:8 — without anyone toggling a setting. School-age clubs default to 1:8 (1:12 in Ireland). Where a nation sets no statutory school-age figure, you can set your own. The cards below are generated from that same engine.

Under-5s in UK4; under-6s in Ireland. The school-age vs EY regulator switchover honours the right age — so a Dublin 5yo still gets Aistear, not Tusla’s school-age regs.

Cross-border opt-in

For the rare case a nursery genuinely operates across borders (typical: NI border town taking ROI families), a multiCountry toggle shows the curriculum picker for all five frameworks instead of filtering. Off by default — most settings stay in one jurisdiction.

Common questions about multi-nation support

Is this real or just localisation?

Real. Five nations = five different funded-entitlement engines, five different regulator inspection-snapshot templates, five different statutory ratios, five different vetting schemes, two currencies. Switching nations changes behaviour, not just labels. See lib/jurisdiction.ts featuresFor() if you want the spec.

Do I have to pick one jurisdiction?

Yes — almost always one per nursery. Jurisdiction governs which regulator template, which curriculum framework, which funded-entitlement scheme, and which currency the nursery sees. A chain with sites in three nations runs three jurisdictions concurrently (one per site), not three accounts.

What if I’m a Northern Ireland nursery taking some Republic-of-Ireland families?

The cross-border case. Two options: (1) Stay NI-jurisdiction (£, AccessNI, NIPC, ETI) and treat the ROI families like any other private-pay family — works for most. (2) Flip on multiCountry under Settings → Profile, which shows all 5 curricula in the picker so observations can be tagged against Aistear when appropriate.

What if my Scotland account staff hasn’t got a PVG?

The staff record raises a worklist alert until the PVG is recorded — same pattern as England nurseries waiting on DBS. Alert windows are nation-specific (60 days for DBS, 90 days for PVG renewals, etc) and configurable on the nursery profile.

Is ECCE and NCS actually wired up?

Yes. ECCE eligibility window + NCS subsidy calculation both run through the fundedEntitlement engine (lib/fundingEngine.ts). NCS uses an hourly sliding-scale rate keyed by family income tier; we deduct from billable hours at the right cap and show € throughout. See /ireland for the full ROI tour.

Can I switch jurisdiction later?

Yes — at Settings → Profile. We keep the historic data intact (a child observation tagged to EYFS stays tagged to EYFS even if the nursery flips to CfW); new observations follow the new framework. Funded entitlement and ratios switch immediately.
